Spain vs Honduras – Match Preview

Spain will attempt to get its 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign back on track tonight when it takes on Honduras at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg.
Spain looked all too impressive in its opening match against Switzerland dominating possession and linking up brilliantly deep inside the Swiss’ half.
Yet, the only statistic that counted was on the scoreboard and La Roja had to settle for a 1-0 defeat thanks to a Gelson Fernandes second-half strike.
On the other side of the coin, Honduras started its long-awaited return to the FIFA World Cup in similarly disappointing fashion looking second best against a rampant Chilean side that, on another day, could’ve made life a lot more difficult for the Central Americans despite the narrow 1-0 scoreline.
Against a Spanish side that undoubtedly has plenty to prove, Honduras may have to go into battle without the always dangerous forward in David Suazo, who is still on the verge of returning from a right thigh injury.
For the Euro 2008 Champions, many football pundits have criticised their use of two defensive midfielders, so a change in tactics may be considered by coach, Vicente del Bosque, who could introduce attacking midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, to the line-up.
A defeat by either side tonight could potentially spell the end of its FIFA World Cup sojourn as both sides try to recover from its first-up defeats.
