After a stunning opening ceremony to launch the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa last night, and through the eyes of the world, the tournament got underway with South Africa and Mexico, and Uruguay and France fighting out tightly-contested draws.

Tonight however, three scintillating clashes take place in the FIFA World Cup with heavyweights Argentina and England among the countries hoping to kick-start their campaigns with commanding victories over Nigeria and the USA respectively. First of all though, we take a look at South Korea Vs Greece:

South Korea vs Greece – 12/06/10 – 21:30 (AEST)

Day 2 of the FIFA World Cup kick-starts with the Group B clash between South Korea and Greece at the Port Elizabeth Stadium at Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Greeks have come into this clash off the back of some disappointing results going into the tournament and will look to lift its overall performance against the South Koreans.

Firstly, Greece took the lead twice against its opponent’s northern neighbour, North Korea, before having to settle with a 2-2 draw – Kostas Katsouranis and Angelos Charisteas finding the back of the net for Greece.

Then, South American stalwarts, Paraguay, taught the Greeks a football lesson in delivering a 2-0 defeat for the financially-stricken European outfit.

Meanwhile, as part of its FIFA World Cup preparations, South Korea have shown it will be a force to be reckoned with through positive results in its past two friendlies.

Despite losing 1-0 to Spain, South Korea can hold its head high in keeping the score to a respectable level against what is currently one of the favourites to ultimately claim the FIFA World Cup.

In its other warm-up friendly match, the Koreans were simply too good for a sub-standard Japanese outfit as they conceded goals to Lee Dong-Gook, who scored from the spot; Lee-Sung Ryeol, whose deflected strike was lucky to find the net; and Kim Jae-Sung, who finished clinically to put Japan out of its misery – the final score, 3-1.

Prediction

Having not gained a point or scored a goal in its only previous World Cup appearance back in 1994, tonight’s clash may see Greece make history against South Korea.

Meanwhile, the South Koreans have looked pacy with Machester United winger, Ji-Sung Park, putting on the backburners, which may cause grave concern for Greece, who in comparison, looked slow in its recent appearances.

With both teams likely to go helter-skelter in this contest, anticipate that the fitness of the South Koreans may be the decisive factor in the pending result of the match.

Korea Republic 2-1 Greece
